United States Naval Academy Updated Base Access
Effective 01 March 2026
In accordance with U.S. Northern Command directives for installations within the continental United States, Naval Support Activity Annapolis (NSAA) and the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) have additional security measures in place.
Key adjustments impacting public access include the suspension of the Trusted Traveler program, General Public Visitation and tours, bus tours, increased wait times for passes and inspections, and the closure of Greenbury Point on North Severn.
Specifically:
Trusted Traveler Program Suspended: The Trusted Traveler program is suspended indefinitely. All visitors who do not possess a valid Department of War (DOW) or Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) card must be sponsored and issued a temporary access pass. To obtain a pass, a sponsor must submit a completed SECNAV 5512/1 form to the Visitor Control Center (VCC) for a mandatory background check. Upon approval, the visitor must pick up their pass in person at the VCC – NSAA policy states that the requesting sponsor shall be with them in person.
To enter the installation, visitors must present both their temporary issued pass and a valid REAL ID-compliant photo identification to the sentry for verification. 100% ID checks are in effect at all gates.
Increased Security and VCC Operations:
All visitors and employees should plan for increased security measures and significant delays. This includes extended wait times for vehicle inspections at Gate 8 and at the VCC. The Pass & ID Office is located at the Visitor Control Center (VCC) inside Gate 1
of the US Naval Academy. The street address is 351 King George Street Annapolis, MD 21402. The Pass & ID Office is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The office may be reached by phone at (410) 293-5762.
Wait times of 1-2 hours can be expected during peak periods.
The doors to the VCC will remain locked. Security Personnel will let visitors in the door to obtain their DBIDS card during the hours listed above. The requesting sponsor shall be with them in person.
Other important information includes:
Continued Operations: Athletics events, Exchange, North Severn activities, and Commissary remain open to DoW and DBIDS ID card holders and those with an approved, sponsored base access pass.
Background Checks: All individuals seeking access will undergo a mandatory criminal background check. Access may be denied for those with a history of felonies, outstanding warrants, or significant criminal activity.
